Super Quick, Frugal Meal: Beef and Gravy Casserole

This is another great recipe from Better Budgeting.

This recipe is so easy and it is a comfort food.  I make the beef and gravy as directed in the recipe, but sometimes, I use mashed potatoes instead of rice!  Talk about your comfort food…and served with a slice of warm fresh bread out of the oven and a pan of green beans with bacon, OH MY!!

Beef and Gravy with Rice or Mashed Potatoes (Prices based on Aldi)

 2 lb. ground beef ($5.78)
4 packs brown gravy mix ($1.56)
Water (enough to follow directions on packet)
Enough rice to serve your family, or mashed potatoes (Rice or potatoes about $1.00)
Salt/pepper to taste.

Brown the ground beef, drain. Add in the amount of water specified on the gravy mix packet. Add in gravy mix, bring to a boil, stirring until it is thick.
Serve over mashed potatoes or rice.

I serve Green beans (total cost is $2.25) with this. Total cost of meal for a family of 5 is $10.56 + any fresh homemade bread I have on hand or toast. That count includes a tweener and 2 teenage boys!!
