Old Fashioned Chocolate Cobbler

This is a very old family recipe.  If you have never had chocolate cobbler, you are in for a rich treat.  For this recipe, you will make up the cake batter.  For the Chocolate sauce that forms under the crust, you do not mix after pouring on the water and adding the butter.

Make up cake batter:

1 cup self rising flour

3/4 cup sugar

1 1/2 tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup milk

2 Tbsp. melted butter

1 tsp vanilla

Mix together and spread into baking dish.

Next, Mix 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1/3 cup cocoa and sprinkle over the batter.  Pour 2 cups water on top.  DO NOT STIR. Slice about 1/2 stick of butter and place on top of water.  Bake at 350 degrees until cake crust is firm.

Serve hot over ice cream.

This is an excellent winter dessert, but we love it any time of year!
